Why are we raising money?
We need to raise $40,000 to get our operating fund healthy.
The testimony of Dayton SHOP throughout our history since 2010 is God’s miraculous provision. He has used many types of givers to fund His mission and continues to meet all of our needs. In 2014, we were given $300k by a single, unbelieving donor. That money was held in a robust operating fund and invested in a ministry facility which was sold in 2019 for a profit, allowing us to walk away with almost $300k again. As we moved downtown into our current facility, we raised $150k in addition to the almost $300k we had in hand to renovate our 212 S Ludlow building. With all these funds and a significant contribution from Korrect Plumbing & HVAC, we were able to open our building in December 2020 debt free but with very little cash reserves.
Operating a 9,000 square foot building and a vibrant, multifaceted ministry costs money. Our current giving income is just about even with our monthly costs. Over time as repairs arise or needs in the community are addressed, our operating fund balance takes a hit. The current balance is equivalent to the cost of one month of operations, which is not the healthiest place to be. In addition, we have some repairs we need to make on our sprinkler system in the vicinity of $5k. With year-end donations being an annual boost to our operating funds, we felt this year we especially needed to ask for help.
Why $40,000?
This winter and spring, we spent time working with experts to apply for some federal funds for the ministry. It seemed things were moving forward and we were told we would receive just shy of $40k. Then, at the last minute, we found out we did not qualify for the grant in one aspect. This was discouraging to us, but we have felt the Lord strongly encourage us that if we ask, the Body will hear and respond! We are believing for this amount to cover sprinkler repairs and to help bring our available funds to health so we can focus on all God has given us to be and do as Dayton SHOP.
What does our operating fund allow us to do?
At the Dayton Student House of Prayer we are humbled to serve our city and beyond as intercessors who agree with God’s good heart for people. Our vision is to make it easy for God to move and people to respond to Him. We trust God’s heart and know He is always ready to move when His people make time and space for Him. We do this primarily through prayer, but also as a “student” house of prayer we do it through discipleship - partnering with Jesus to grow up in His teaching.
Along with our commitment to steward a prayer room in our inner city (lunch sets TWR, New Depths Class, Abide Sets, relational discipleship), we eagerly serve Jesus in His mission to touch hearts at our retreats (men’s, women’s, youth, leadership), gatherings (City Youth, Signs & Wonders Tents, Women’s Fall Gathering), camps (Signs & Wonders Kids and Teen Camps), and outreaches (prophetic ministry sessions, street ministry, house blessings, kids events, guest leading at churches, speaking engagements). The ministry God has given us at Dayton SHOP is wide and varied, but all of it fosters prayer by raising up praying people.
